I started to create “Long Division” as a pun on the political divisiveness in our country, using a stereotype—the simple, mathematical division sign. As I worked, the painting morphed into a landscape and, ironically, established just the opposite: an image of a visual and symbolic connection. Sunrise or sunset, we are one. We are a reflection of each other. We remain connected despite our divisiveness.
