The Declaration of Independence was not written to include all inhabitants of the colonies 250 years ago. It excluded African slaves.Generations of Black slaves were bought/brought and sold. White male landowners declared freedom from the British Empire and peace/appeasement of their citizens all while excluding those who were forced to build the country. Amendments have had to be made to the Constitution, again, to include all people of the United States. 250 years later under this current administration, many of the civil liberties and rights are being stripped away. The constitution is treated as merely a suggestion at times and at others a set of rules and principles that don’t even exist. In current times, we’re often countered with “I don’t see color”, “it’s not about race”, “there is no white privilege” – they want to present a peaceful society – Peace Sells – but we’re not at peace – Who’s Buying?
