Paul Gelsobello has been taking photos professionally for close to 50 years. Since 1983, he’s been based on West 29th Street in the heart of Chelsea, welcoming Creative Directors, Art Directors, Graphic Designers, Publishers, Editors, and other creatives seeking distinctive images to elevate their products, publications, and designs. Beyond his New York City studio, he’s an experienced location photographer, traveling nationwide and abroad to capture compelling photos on-site. His experience spans products, food, interiors, exteriors, lifestyle and portraits. Always with the creative challenge of transforming concepts into vivid, marketable visuals. He personally retouches all of his own work, drawing on more than 30 years of Photoshop experience.
Over the years, he’s built long-term relationships with clients such as Starwood Hotels (including W and St. Regis), Unilever, Pinnacle Foods, Reckitt Benckiser, B&G Foods, Atalanta Corporation, Upfield, Morris Visitor Publications, The Kimberly Hotel, Warwick Hotels & Resorts, and Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants. His images have been viewed by millions of hotel guests for over four decades in visitor publications, hotel books, and videos. Notably, he photographed over 20 W Hotel properties, many multiple times, across the U.S. and Virgin Islands and spent 35 years as the main photographer for Guest Informant, traveling to more than 50 major cities. His work has also appeared in Where Magazine, Where Guestbook, Food & Wine, Travel & Leisure, and Design & Décor, among others.
He’s photographed hundreds of restaurants and world-class chefs, and for nearly 20 years, he served as Unilever’s in-house photographer for brands such as, Hellmann’s, I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter, Country Crock, Breyers, Lipton, Starbucks, Skippy, Dove, and Knorr. His images have also represented brands such as Promise, Bertolli, French’s, Frank’s Red Hot, Ortega, Underwood, Birds Eye, Mrs. Paul’s, Van de Kamp’s, Log Cabin, Duncan Hines, Celebrity Goat Cheese, Cucina Classico, Dalmatia, Schär, Wish-Bone , Yellow Tail Wine and Van Gogh Vodka, in advertising, packaging, editorial features, as well 1000’s of recipe photos across all media.
While he loves working with high-end food and hospitality clients, his greatest joy is exploring the world alone with his camera, capturing the beauty around him. In recent years, much of his personal work has centered around his cabin at Lake Wallenpaupack in Lakeville, Pennsylvania. A place where the pace slows and inspiration flows. Here, he’s photographed misty mornings, pristine landscapes, brilliant sunsets, and timeless architecture that embody the quiet charm of northeast Pennsylvania. He’s taught students at the former Creative Compound in Honesdale and now offers private photography and Photoshop lessons from his Paradise Park Drive home. His long-term dream is to retire here, devoting his days to teaching and capturing life’s beauty through his lens.
