Nathan Gnip – Artist Statement

I believe that art speaks for itself. Whatever effects it has on you is personal that you found within yourself. My paintings serve their purpose when you view them and some part of you relates, thinks, and absorbs the image. The thoughts and feelings that you have are the most important part of my art. You take those with you. All my works depend on form, color, and composition.

My style explores the relationship between structures and the natural world.  The idea of recognizable shapes and structures living within irrational thoughts and emotions.  I begin painting very spontaneously and become more detailed as the composition starts to show itself. As an artist I am intrigued by this idea.

I believe that how the viewer interprets the work, the piece becomes the reality for that person.
