Matt Povse
Being a sculptor and ceramist, my work references organic forms and texture from nature with a high regard for the traditions of the medium. I work primarily in stoneware clay that is gas–reduction fired with thrown, hand built, carved, and altered components, sometimes combining wood or cement with the clay.
Form, surface, and line are main concerns with my work. Among the many references that are important and inform me include Nature and the work of many architects, painters, potters, and sculptors from the past.
