Katharina Litchman

Katharina Litchman

Following a career in finance, Litchman immersed herself in the study of quilting where she applied her long practiced sewing skills to developing a series of art quilts.  Litchman attended classes at Paron’s School of Design in pottery, photography and design.

Litchman was inducted into the Catskill Mountain Quilters Hall of Fame as the first art quilter accepted into this very traditional group.  Her “Drought” quilt was accepted into the permanent collection of the National Quilt Museum in Paducah, KY.  She is a member of the international Studio Art Quilt Association. She signs her quilts “Mietzi” after her first cat “Mietzi.”

Artist Statement

Representational imagery inspired a series of abstract quilts where I began with a deliberate color palette and chose geometric shapes that interpret the object or scene referenced in the work.
