Joan Douglass

Joan Douglass

A retired elementary school teacher, Joan James Douglass has been painting full time since her retirement in 1995.  She developed a love of drawing and painting as a child and creating art continues to be an important part of her life.  Watercolor, which she finds exciting because of its transparent quality, is her favorite medium.

Joan has attended many watercolor workshops presented by international respected contemporary artists.  Her personal style usually incorporates vivid colors and includes considerable representational detail.  Each new painting offers unique challenges that contribute to the process of her creative journey.  She chooses subjects that please her and she hopes to share her pleasure with her viewers.

A juried artist member of the Rhode Island Watercolor Society, Joan’s work has been presented in galleries, published and displayed in many exhibitions.  She maintains a studio gallery in her home.
