Jay Hostetler
Jay Hostetler received a M.A. from Syracuse University Newhouse School of Public Communications in Commercial Photography. He worked in New York City as a commercial photographer and freelance work shooting portfolios for performing artists and visual artists before moving on to independent films and television production.
His personal work in experimental photography includes Polaroid Transfer prints (monoprints) creating vivid color images resembling little paintings. Jay also experiments with monochromatic prints using black and white negatives from film as the positive print.
Jay’s experimental photography work also includes shooting double exposure images using a film camera and rolling back the film. Through trial and error with exposures, the final images of a color landscape with black and white figures floating in the foreground creates another layer to the process. The urban landscapes were shot from the rooftop of my East Village apartment.
