Elizabeth Tilley   aka Lizzy

“I am an autodidact and my work evolves from my continual study of the human experience and spiritual seeking in literature, history, music, theatre and travel. I like to reference other artists who inspire me, like Emerson, Woolf, Rumi, Gibran, Proust, af Klint, Klimt, Kahlo, Chicago, Picasso, Van Gogh. The work always comes from a place of emotional openness. I abhor rules, routines, mass production, boundaries, fear, malice, power seekers and lies. That is why I make art: to counterbalance those things happening around me. Where there is attention, there is energy, and where there is energy, there is growth, for the individual first, and then, perhaps, with hope, the universal. I play with every imaginable material to make paintings, books, clothing, jewelry, art quilts, sculpture and assemblage; lately especially employing natural things like flowers, feathers, moss, bark, and branches. I am never bored, and will always be young at heart in art.
