Newfoundland is getting a brand new piece of public art.

Wayne County nonprofits, led by The Cooperage Project, the Newfoundland Public Library, and The Wayne County Community Foundation, secured funding to construct a beautiful tile mosaic in Carlton Drake Memorial Park.

The project is partially funded by a grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, and will include place-based, public art installations all along Route 191. Newfoundland was chosen as the southernmost location in Wayne County and will be one of the first two projects completed.

The Wayne County Community Foundation, in partnership with The Cooperage Project and the
Newfoundland Area Public Library, is excited to announce the official unveiling of the second
location on Wayne County’s new Creative Communities Art Tail at Carlton Drake Memorial Park, located at 994 Main Street in
Newfoundland, PA.

Newfoundland:

This site is composed of a large concrete structure located in Carlton Drake Memorial Park. The structure will feature a tile mosaic mural, designed by Jessica Gorlin Liddell of Bella Mosaic Art of Philadelphia and constructed of tiles made locally by students and community members in Newfoundland. The front displays the name “NEWFOUNDLAND” in bold white letters and the reverse is a flowing mural depicting Newfoundland over history and through the seasons, beginning with the past in winter and leading to the future in autumn – showcasing local activities, flora, and fauna.
