Decorative painting is a traditional European folk art dating back to 18th century. There used to be
traveling artists, who would go from place to place, paint churches and the more affluent households in exchange for room and board. Different regions had their own specific versions of styles and patterns. In Scandinavia this type of painting is called rosemaling. It traveled to the new world with the European immigrants and continued in a modified form as a way to paint tin ware, which is now commonly known as tole painting. Three individual workshops; do one or all three.

Classes are designed to introduce children to visual arts and
provide art enrichment beyond the school curriculum. A variety of
media and techniques will be explored - with a special
focus on drawing skills. Students will be introduced to the
concept of drawing from a model, which includes pictures and/or
simple objects. In the later stages of each project, young artists
are encouraged to use their own creativity to further develop their
initial drawing into a finished composition. Media explored
include markers, waterbrushed markers, colored pencils,
watercolor pencils, oil pastels, scratch art,

This course is an introduction to the many faces of polymer clay, an exciting new medium for anyone from the beginning crafter to the experienced artist. Polymer clay is a pliable, synthetic compound that is versatile enough to sculpt, carve, texture, paint, stamp, mold and layer into intricate patterns. It comes in dozens of colors that can be blended together to make your own. It doesn't dry out, is easy to work with and can be fired in your own home oven. When baked it can be sanded, polished, carved, painted or turned on a lathe. It adheres to materials like glass, wood and metals. Each week will be devoted to a different technique of working with this versatile material. Learn to create inventive creations from home décor items like vases and bowls to ornaments, sculpture and jewelry.
