Decorative painting is a traditional European folk art dating back to 18th century. There used to be

Different regions had their own specific versions of styles and patterns. In Scandinavia this type of painting is called rosemaling. It traveled to the new world with the European immigrants and continued in a modified form as a way to paint tin ware, which is now commonly known as tole painting.
