I am never without my camera, so I am constantly looking at my surroundings, trying to find that special shot. I don't set out to make photos about one subject or another. Sometimes what I see develops into a beautiful picture, sometimes it gets the old delete button, it's all part of the challenge.
People always ask me what kind of photographer I am, I find that to be a difficult question to answer - if you make a picture and it’s how you want it to be, no matter what the subject - then hopefully it will speak for itself – I think everyone takes something a little different from the same picture and that's okay with me.
I didn't set out to be a certain kind of photographer, I hadn't even intended to share my work with anyone except my husband and kids. When my husband deployed to Iraq in 2009, I began posting my photos on facebook so he wouldn't miss out on what was happening in our lives at home. People took notice and began asking if they could buy my work. Originally my photography focused on nature and wildlife, but now I love to include people, I believe they can really help tell the story. Nature, human nature, I like to capture both.
I am currently finishing my schooling at the New York Institute of Photography. I have had my work displayed in a gallery in my hometown, and it is often featured in the local paper. My photos are on display at the Pocono Lake Region Chamber of Commerce and will be featured in the Wayne County Library this August. Also, I just had one of my pictures published in the July 18th issue of First for women...a first for me!!
Just this June, I opened my own portrait studio, 4 Sea-Sun Photography in the Hawley Silk Mill so I can do even more of what I love...capture memories, memories that deserve to be celebrated and cherished for years to come.
My hope is to keep evolving and learning and to always have my family, and my camera by my side.
