    Meet the Artists
    Mike Caggiano

    Mike Caggiano

When I was very young, two of my favorite things were drawing and trains. As time passed, I had wanted to work in the field of art, so I decided to become a commercial artist and majored in art at Hunter College in New York City. My direction changed and I became employed by a printing company as a silkscreen printer and also a cameraman and layout person. Never forgetting my second favorite thing – trains, I was fortunate enough to land a job with the N.Y. City Transit. I started as a Porter, then moved to the Track Department starting as a Trackman and worked my way up to Superintendent of Track. Early in my career with the NYCT, I won awards in watercolor painting and portraits in their judged competition: "Art in the Subway". I retired from the N.Y. City Transit after almost 30 years and now find myself fortunate enough to have the opportunity to fully explore my passion for art.

Over the years I attended a variety of art workshops and classes in such diverse topics as watercolor, oil painting, iconography, digital photography, and graphic design. I still consider myself self-taught through artistic exploration. It is fun to create whimsical art themes around musicians, especially the Beatles. I’m also interested in creating art with vintage furniture. Photography and digital slideshows has become a real interest to me, and I have put this passion to work in creating digital slideshows for The Wayne County Arts Alliance. It has been my privilege to serve as the current President of the WCAA.
