I was born into an artistic family; the creation
of artistic images has been my essence since childhood. I successfully achieved collegiate degrees
in both art and art education. My own creativity was put aside for many years while nurturing
others teaching elementary art - kindergarten through 8th grade for 26 years until my retirement
in 2001. My creative rediscovery has led me to exploring the "impressionist" style of painting
influenced by the inspiration that encompasses the techniques developed by the Cape Cod School
of Art, Provincetown Massachusetts. I am fascinated by the "tradition of painting color and light"
and seeing the importance of emphasizing the careful use color inherent to the "impressionist"
tradition rather than in the techniques of linear development and pictorial detail. My oil
paintings are predominantly done with a pallet knife though the brush is found to help. My subjects
include, but are not restricted to, portraits, landscapes, and still-lifes. Previously aided by the
use of photography, my greatest challenge has become painting landscapes on location, referred by the
impressionists as "En Plein Air". Nature is currently my most passionate subject.
